The Nasdaq Index is a market capitalization–weighted index calculated from the prices of more than 3,500 listed stocks. The index includes a wide range of instruments such as ADRs (American Depositary Receipts), REITs (Real Estate Investment Trusts), and other company types.
Since approximately 50% of the Nasdaq Index consists of technology companies, it is often referred to as a technology index. In addition to technology firms, the index also includes companies operating in the services and healthcare sectors.
Established in 1971 as an electronic trading platform for stocks, Nasdaq became a fully independent and publicly listed company in 2020. In 2007, Nasdaq expanded into the Scandinavian markets by merging with OMX, and has since been operating as Nasdaq OMX.
The total market capitalization of stocks traded on the Nasdaq exceeds 11 trillion USD, and the daily trading volume surpasses 4.5 billion shares.
Some of the major companies listed on the Nasdaq include PepsiCo, PayPal, and Amazon.
CFD Products and Leveraged Trading on U.S. Stock Indices
Due to its technology-heavy composition, the Nasdaq Index has become one of the most popular indices among global investors.
At QNB Invest, the index CFDs traded through the MetaTrader 4 Forex platform are cash-settled contracts and therefore do not have an expiry date.
Since these are cash contracts, corporate actions such as dividends and stock splits are reflected to investors as swap adjustments, depending on the direction and size of their positions.
Swap charges for index CFDs are applied daily, and on Fridays, a three-day swap is charged.
Depending on daylight saving time adjustments, the three-day swap day may shift to Monday.
